One of the most
fascinating creations on earth is Human brain. The functionalities of our brain
are surprisingly magnificent. Here are a few surprising things our brain does
1.Creative works are better when our brain is tired
If you are trying to do creative
works, you will work more when you are more tired and your brain isn’t
functioning as efficiently. When you are tired, your
brain is dull in filtering out distractions and focusing on a particular task
and also less efficient at remembering connections between ideas or concepts.
These are good things when it comes to creative work, since this kind of work
requires making new connections, openness to new ideas, and thinking in new
ways. So a tired brain is of much more use to us when working on creative
projects.
2.Stress can resize your brain
Stress is one of the most common causes of changes in brain function.
Chronic stress can cause increase in glucocorticoids and decrease regulation of
cortisol and create cellular changes in hippocampus. Increase in
glucocorticoids leads to inadequate sleep, poor nutrition and emotional
distress while create cellular changes in hippocampus leads to attention,
perception, short term memory, learning and word finding.
3.Multitasking – an impossible task
When we of multitasking, we are actually context-switching i.e., we
are quickly switching back and forth between different tasks, rather than doing
them at the same time. When our brains handle
a single task, the prefrontal cortex part of our brain plays a big
part. The anterior part of
this brain region forms the goal or task. When the brain was overloaded by the second task and could not
perform at its full capacity, because it needs to split its resources.
4.Nap – improves day to day performnace
Research indicates that when
a memory is first recorded in the brain, in the hippocampus, to be specific it
is still fragile and easily forgotten, especially if the brain is asked to
memorize more things. Napping, pushes memories to the neocortex, the brain’s more
permanent storage, prevent them from being overwritten. Taking a nap helps to
clear information out of your brain’s temporary storage areas, getting it ready
for new information to be absorbed.
5.Your vision trumps all other senses
Our brain is doing all image guessing works because it doesn’t know where things are. In
this three-dimensional world, the light actually falls on our retina in a
two-dimensional fashion and so our brain approximates viewable image. Brain is
so much dedicated to our vision.
6.Introversion and extroversion comes from differnet writing in the
brain
There is a difference in the brains of extroverted and introverted
people in terms of how we process rewards and how genetic makeup differs.
For extroverts, their brains respond more when they strongly gamble pays off, part
of this is simply genetic, but it’s partly the difference of their
dopamine systems as well. I the dopamine system
of the extrovert’s brain tend to push towards novelty, taking risks and
enjoying unfamiliar or surprising situations more than others. For
introverts, the stimuli runs through a long, complicated pathway in areas of
the brain associated with remembering, planning, and solving problems.
7.Tendency to like people who commit mistakes
Committing mistakes makes us more likable, and this is called the
Pratfall Effect. Perfection
creates distance and an unattractive air of invincibility and those who never
make mistakes are perceived as less likable.
8.Meditation helps to rewire your brain
Meditation not only helps us to focus and stay calm but also it
gives also has other benefits like less anxiety, helps in more creativity and
also resulting in better memory.
9.Reoganize your brain with physical ativity
There’s a link between exercise and mental alertness, in a
similar way happiness and exercise are related. A lifetime of exercise can
result in amazing increase in cognitive performance, compared with those who
are inactive.
