Working for a startup does not allow any candidate’s days work in a cubicle. Rather it allows endless juggling of tasks and goes through multiple positions within the company. Job descriptions won’t work when the team is allotted for the first time. It takes are unique kind of candidate to work for a startup. Here are the most vital qualities for your first startup hire.

1.Humility
New hires have to be smart and be open to know what they lack in. The point is not to they shouldn’t have confidence to speak up and disagree, but successful businesses do not have time for a battle of egos which takes away focus from the issues or decisions at hand. Here humility is more important in new hires that need to be willing to pitch in at any level and be able to move forward with decisions that are made.

2.Connection with policies
In order to determine the connection, it is important to clearly illustrate the vision of your company and the guiding policies. If you haven’t outlined that yet, it’s probably advisable not to hire people. When properly stated it will be very clear, through conversation and targeted questions, whether or not you’ve got the right person on your hands.

3.Like mindedness
Any skill can be mastered and experience can be built, but having someone who understands our company vision and fits into the company culture is the most important factor in hiring. The process of finding these ideal personalities to fit in is having a really unique and slightly above job description.

4.Persistence
When an employee pushes for the job, it is more likely that they will do whatever it takes to be successful on that job. Many employers are chasing employees and hoping that they will work for them. What happens is that the employer ends up pushing them rather than the employee wanting to work for that employer.

5.Creativity
Look for someone who asks questions, redefines assumptions and thinks outside the box. Startups are creative environments, there will be many new entities requiring new teams and infrastructure. Everything is developed entirely from scratch. Be it whatever the role, it’s important that every individual at a startup be a source of creativity.

6.Work history
Look for committed work history. Check if they have worked with previous employers for extended periods of time. Individuals who job hop usually don’t know what they are looking for and, therefore, they never find it.

7.Trustworthiness
When you hire someone, you should be able to trust them to do the task you needed them to do, complete it on time and come to you if they are stuck.

8.Passion
Skills can be taught and knowledge can be developed but having an employee who is passionate about the brand and what we do is most benefited.
